Background
A prominent Dallas-based investor and his partners, holding over $40 billion in assets worldwide across radio, manufacturing, distribution, consulting, and technology portfolio companies spanning Europe, South America, the Pacific Rim, and the United States — with Partners, Principals, and Associates working deals globally with little standardization to communicate effectively.
Situation
The firm needed a competitive edge and a way to cut travel costs through technology. They asked for a technology roadmap to improve global network communications and video conferencing among their four largest locations, plus an Intranet portal for knowledge management and collaboration.
Solution
We met with Partners, Principals, and Associates to lay the groundwork for a strategic plan, starting with a stronger technical team focused on service and quality, standardized on Dell and Microsoft. We rebuilt local networks, upgraded the wide-area network between all locations, selected and implemented a 3Com video conferencing solution, and designed a user-friendly Intranet portal for company information, benefits, and collaboration.
Results
Standardizing on Dell reduced service calls from 150 to 25 within 3 months, and Blackberry/RIM technology cut response time to 5 minutes or less. The strategic plan was completed and approved within three months, network speeds improved dramatically, and video conferencing meaningfully reduced travel expenses.
